Raised with Christ

Women’s Forum 2011

Ainsley Poulos opens Colossians

Ainsley is a well known and loved speaker at the Equip Womenʼs Conference. She is married to Archie and together with their 3 children, has served in several churches in the Sydney region. Ainsley also works part-time as a speech pathologist.

Central to the message of the book of Colossians is that we have been “raised with Christ”. But what does that mean and how can we live as women of the resurrection? Over two talks, Ainsley will open up this important concept from Paulʼs letter to the Colossians.

Women love a good chat, and gossip seems a harmless way to develop friendships. Why then is God concerned about gossip? And how do our conversations reflect our resurrected life in Christ? Ainsleyʼs third talk is entitled “better than gossip”.

You are warmly invited to join us as we come together to learn life changing truths from Godʼs word.

the end of Jesus’ life … and the beginning of ours

Three great events, firmly planted in human history:

  • a crucifixion,
  • an empty tomb,
  • a resurrection.

The world will never be the same. You and I can never be the same.

Peter Bolt returns to Latrobe for the RBN’s August Forum, paying attention to the Gospels and considering the implications of the death and resurrection of Jesus for our lives.

Peter grew up at Gowrie Park and attended Latrobe High School.  He now lectures at Moore Theological College in Sydney and teaches the Bible around the world.

The God of Samson

At the 2011 May Forum, Murray Capill will return to open the Scriptures with us. Murray will be speaking about “The God of Samson” as he opens chapters 13 to 16 of the Book of Judges.

Murray says:

Samson’s actions often appall us but we mustn’t be blinded by what we see on the surface of this story.

There are truths here about Samson’s God that are timely and timeless and tremendously important for us to grasp.

Are you coming to hear about “The God of Samson” and enjoy fellowship around God’s word?

Not Forsaken

At the 2010 Women’s Forum Jenny Salt will be opening the book of Joshua with us.

A stirring sermon, a new leader, a renewed resolve to obey God, a fresh start: the book of Joshua begins with Israel poised, once again, on the edge of the promised land. Expectations are high but amid accounts of prostitutes, a halted river, collapsing city walls, mouldy bread, hailstones and the sun standing still, we see that God is faithful but the people are not.

Israel’s story bears some striking resemblances to our own. So, what are we to do with what is basically a story of failure, for both Israel and us? Joshua teaches us to look to our utterly faithful God to intervene. It teaches us to look to Jesus who cried out from the cross, “why have you forsaken me?” so that those words need never pass our lips. It teaches us that as God’s people, we are not forsaken.

Finding our Delight in the Scriptures at the May Forum

At the 2010 May Forum Michael Jensen will be opening Psalm 119 with us.

Michael says:

If anything, Psalm 119 is a bit of a love song to the torah, the written law of God. The Psalmist keeps boiling over with his exuberant delight in it. He revels in it.  I find the sheer joy of his expressions jolts me out of my rather blasé attitude. I am truly thankful for the Word of God, sure. But that sheer delight in the laws and commands and statutes of God – where does it come from? And how can I come to share it?

It isn’t as if God commands with his right hand and promises with his left. His Word to us is both: it is a command that promises, and a promise that commands. He does not, in his Word, give us merely rules.

He gives us, in his Word, himself.

Are you coming to enjoy fellowship around God’s word and hear more?
